Consider Your Audience
I was watching a YouTube video by a bassist that was talking about this trend of guitarist (including him) playing extremely complex things on Instagram and how to do it. Towards the end of the video he said something that put into words what I’ve been wrestling with this whole year: “Consider your audience. If you are posting about music theory or fix pedals or how to play this or behind the scenes in the studio that; you should know, you are speaking exclusively to musicians” This is something I realized I was doing with my content on YouTube. Over the last 3 years I’ve started building following by talking about music business & gear. Something that would mostly resonate with music creators rather than music fans. However, I’ve been trying to go in the direction of being an artist as of this year. So me continuing down that path is counter intuitive for the goals I’ve set for myself. I’ve been trying to figure out what it is that I can create that would connect with and entertain an audience of music fans and it’s been a hard process. But I’m sure in the end it will be rewarding. It’s just a matter of figuring out what I will share that resonates with music fans more than music creators. I just thought this might be something that someone else might benefit from. Do you agree or disagree? If you want to watch the video I’m referencing you can check it out here: the part that stood out to me is around the 37 minute mark. https://youtu.be/2yAz3k41KR0

💸 who’s getting grant money? 💸
there are so many local and national arts and culture organizations that fund individual artists, i’m curious if any artists in the network are taking advantage of these types of opportunities? i’ve found that learning the grant application process and building with established art institutions can be a super bag that music artists especially may overlook. ✨ fyi it’s giving season so check for grant opportunities that could work for you and apply!

YouTube Type Beats
I have a roster of artists I'm building up and they all have different sounds. At the moment while we're building relationships with local producers they've all been leasing their beats from producers that have their beats on YouTube. I know this is not a good strategy long-term, but I still like it for proof of concept to show what they're capable of & what sound their going for in order to attract the type of producers they want to work with that fit that sound. I do see a lot of them typically go to the same 2 or 3 producers on YouTube. Any tips on how we can build that relationship with those producers off YouTube? Of course I've messaged and showed interest, willing to pay and even sent over the songs to let them hear how it's sounding. No real luck so far. Also, how can I go out and find producers outside of YouTube for my artists to work with?

Hey thanks for posting this. When it comes to YouTube producers I'd suggest seeing if they're active on IG. That's usually a better platform to reach out to them and they seem to be more responsive. As far finding producers outside of YouTube I'd suggest Tik Tok! Also, I'm a producer as well and am curious what type of production you're looking for.
