10 years... Today marks 10 years of being with my husband!
10 years of watching each other grow.
10 years of learning everything about each other.
10 years of support.
10 years of encouragement.
10 years of love.
4 children, living in 5 different locations, multiple businesses and jobs...
This picture is from a long time ago. Before we ever had kids. Before we were married. Before we knew that we'd be spending the rest of our lives choosing to fall in love over and over again as we both change and grow.
Yet, he looked at me with the same expression and face yesterday while we were having dinner with our kids.
In these 10 years, i've learned that the person you fall in love with will not be the person that you have to stay in love with. I have learned that our happiness is our own responsibility, not the responsibility of our partners. I have learned that it is far more useful to work towards peace than working towards who's right in an argument. I have learned that you can't expect things from others that you yourself are not willing to do or give. I have learned that emotional regulation is highly influenced by those around us so it's important to be the rock for your partner when needed so that they can be the rock for you when you're needed.
I have learned that when all is said and done, nobody will be there to support you through your failings and push you to be better than the person who knows you more intimately than anybody else. I have learned that life is infinitely better when you can do it with someone else and not have to carry the burdens of this world alone. I have learned that when you put God at the center of your marriage and both people are aiming up, you can only become more strong, powerful, and connected.
10 years down, here's to looking forward to the rest of our lives together.
(Also, look how cute we were on this sushi date! )
