Charlie didn't make the baseball team as a freshman in college with failing grades. He went on to have the still-standing save record for Virginia Tech baseball with a 4.0 GPA in Engineering in his following years, later playing for the Minnesota Twins Organization.
Gage had only 2 offers out of high school after having a breakout junior season. He went through the JuCo route and transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). Almost cut as a year 1 transfer student, he ended up being the closer for 2 years after the covid-19 pandemic with a 3.9 GPA as a key player and captain.
